Gelson’s Markets is well known for our enticing array of freshly prepared hot foods, gourmet salads and fresh self-serve salad bar in our service deli. The Service Short Order Cook’s responsibility will include the production of all raw products, complete orders from steam tables, placing food on plates and serving customers at tables or counters. Grill, cook, and fry foods such as French fries, eggs, pancakes, and burgers. Perform simple food preparation tasks such as making sandwiches, and carving meats. Plan work on orders so that items served together are finished at the same time. Clean food preparation equipment, work areas, and counters or tables. Use many general cooking tools such as; Fruit zesters, graters, paring knives, meat slicers, steamers, and other commercial appliances and tools.

Experience within the food service or restaurant industry is preferred. The Short Order Cook position is an entry level position where all necessary functions will be trained.

All entry level Service Deli positions start at part time. Pay rate will be dependent on experience.

Physical requirements:

  • Continuous hand manipulation including, grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation

  • Reaching above and at shoulder level frequently

  • Standing up to 8 hours per day

  • Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. frequently

  • Lifting and carrying up to 75 lbs. occasionally

  • Working near hazardous machinery (Slicer, mixer, knives)

  • Walking on uneven ground (Floor mats)

  • Exposure to dust, gas, fumes (Oven, stove)

  • Exposure to noise (Mixers, food processor)

  • Exposure to extremes in temperature (Deli coolers, freezer, ovens)

  • Hand-Eye Coordination; Great knife Skills
