Microsoft Corporation Sr Marketing Communications Manager in Redmond, Washington

Senior SEO Web Writer/Editor – Cloud + Enterprise

Interested in a start-up like environment, passionate about cloud computing technology and building the next billion-dollar business? Cloud computing represents one of the most important evolutions of the technology industry, and a strategic priority for Microsoft. One of our products at the heart of that evolution is our public cloud offering: Microsoft Azure.

The Cloud + Enterprise web team is looking for a creative, data-driven web copywriter and editor who’s familiar with cloud computing technology, knows the difference between DevOps and dev/test, and understands the importance of experimentation and optimization. The ideal candidate loves to create compelling web copy that attracts customers, inspires their engagement, and nurtures them through the web experience. The SEO writer also believes that words matter, that words directly impact UX, and that words can help delight our customers at every touch point.

You are a resourceful and versatile copy writer with a passion for the web, a basic knowledge of the SEO landscape, and a desire to function cross-team to develop compelling web copy. You are versatile enough that you can dig in and develop optimized web copy from the ground up, but are also OK rolling up your sleeves, throwing on your editor hat, and helping shape product marketing copy that is aligned to the Microsoft brand voice and style.

You are quality-obsessed, can influence stakeholders with data, and believe in the power of the written word to move customers to act. You advocate for a positive customer experience with every word choice. You have strong cross-team, cross-company collaboration skills and are ready to work closely with stakeholders to contribute to great user experiences via the web.

You will work in a highly-matrixed organization across marketing and business operations, and work closely with Product Marketing, Engineering Program Management, Development, Test, and UX Design partners to communicate product features and functionality in the most compelling way to customers.

Our Team

We are a fast-paced group with global stakeholders. We put a focus on getting things done, simplifying anything and everything, and having fun doing it. You will be in the middle of it all helping to make decisions that impact our resources, timelines, and global web experience.

What you’ll do

•Write & edit. Your primary job is to write, re-write, and edit copy primarily for the web site, content marketing landing pages, and other digital assets. You’ll also contribute expertise to email nurture streams, and might be asked to lend a hand with digital ads and other marketing collateral across the C+E portfolio of products.

•SEO: You’ll research keywords, and use SEO writing best practices to boost search rankings. You will also look for brand and non-brand opportunities to create new content pages that capture organic search queries and increase site engagement.

•Test & optimize: You’ll work closely with the A/B test lead and site manager to brainstorm testable new hypotheses, communicating results to stakeholders, and apply lessons and best practices to other site pages.

Who you are

•Exceptional writer. You’ve done it all—business to consumer, ads to web copy—and have the portfolio to prove it. Your sentences are squeaky clean, compelling, and conversational. You relentlessly cut through the clutter to get to the core message. You know when jargon is useful and when it gets in the way, when to add a dash of style, and when to just stick to facts.

•Top-notch editor. You’re nitpicky about style rules, offended by typos, and instantly know how to make a bad draft better.

•Passionate about SEO: You can use industry tools to research keyword opportunities, optimize existing content, and develop new content to meet search needs.

•Audience-obsessed. You’re laser-focused on your audience and their needs and interests. Your copy respects their time and intelligence, but never assumes readers inherently know or care about what you’re talking about.

•Creative. You can make even the most boring, technical concepts compelling and understandable.

•Fact-based, data-driven: You persuade with facts, not fluff. And always challenge your assumptions and word choices using surveys, A/B tests, and other tools.

•Has mastered key aspects of business-driven Web publishing, strategy, and project management.

•5+ years digital marketing experience

•5+ years website management/strategy experience

•Demonstrated ability to think strategically, execute effectively, work under deadline pressure and manage multiple projects, in some cases, across multiple time zones and platforms

•Proven effectiveness in working within a large company to gain commitment and support for projects and initiatives

•Experienced in managing multiple projects simultaneously amid ambiguity and without direction, and to forge partnerships and drive for results at all levels of Microsoft.

•Project Management experience in a highly independent, but collaborative environment

•BS/BA degree, MBA Preferred
