Key Responsibilities

The Marketing & Communications Specialist, Industrial Coatings and Packaging is a critical role in developing and implementing marketing communications plans that align with corporate goals. As a member of the global marketing communications team, you will work in a fast-paced environment with leadership from PPG’s IC and Packaging businesses, and with members of PPG’s corporate communications, marketing, and community and government affairs teams. Working with outside marketing, communications and advertising freelancers and agencies, you will implement tactics and meet established goals.

  • Learn the business and establish strong relationships

    o Partners with PPG business leaders, with key personnel within each business and across their team of regional coordinators. In the first 3 months, s/he will gain an understanding of the IC and Packaging businesses, our markets and technologies.

    o A top-performing professional will think creatively, implement with an eye on detail, and showcase results and progress. First year success will be evaluated on how s/he has been able to help the SBUs develop and implement an effective marketing and communications plan.

  • Partner with business leaders to develop and execute annual communication plans that support and drive business objectives

    o Supports marketing communications manager in working with business leaders within PPG to develop and implement strategic marketing communications plans that align with business objectives to drive awareness and familiarity of PPG, enhance the reputation of the company and ultimately contribute to efforts to drive sales of paint and coatings products.

  • Collaborate closely with Corporate/Regional Communications and Government Affairs teams

    o Ensures alignment to corporate guidelines and approaches as well as digital execution plans and strategies.

    o Works closely with other marketing communicators to leverage opportunities through strategic efforts.

    o Acts as liaison within the business for corporate brand alignment and corporate communications governance.

  • Develop a pipeline of marketing communications activities

    o Drives awareness and builds the reputation of PPG throughout its target markets by working closely with executive leaders and other key senior business managers.

  • Exhibit best in class communications skill:

    o Supports the implementation of marketing communications initiatives through the execution of creative content (both digital and print), promotion and mechanisms that drive customer experience.

    o Develops marketing communications materials (collateral, websites, social, trade shows, etc.). Plans and develop customer experiences and events

  • Develop material and relationships with external media .

    o Writes, edits, and distributes press releases – investments, community projects, events, awards, M&A etc.

    o Writes and edits standby statements and acts as coordinator for all external media in the event of crisis situations.

    o Collaborates with media in relation to key business events and local community projects to improve the awareness and reputation of PPG


    Minimum Requirements and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in communications, journalism, English or liberal arts.

  • 2 years of experience in marketing communications, advertising, corporate communications, public relations, media relations, brand marketing, or related field.

  • Demonstrated experience implementing campaigns or projects that focus on: o Marketing communications

    o Advertising development and media planning

    o Social media engagement

    o Verbal communications and public speaking skills

    o Visual communications skills

    o Media relations

    o Reputation management

    o Executive communications and speech writing

    o Crisis management and response, standby statement development

    o Community affairs/engagement experience

    o Employee engagement communications

  • Experience reviewing advertising creative and marketing materials for accuracy, compliance with legal requirements, etc.

  • Understands elements of brand marketing and is able to effectively deploy them with moderate management direction

  • Previous business writing, editing and proofreading experience

  • Fluent spoken and written English skills Preferred Experience:

  • Agency account role/agency experience or communications leadership in a large, global organization is preferred.

  • Knowledge of office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with media relations software (Cision, etc.) a plus
