The student intern will gain a general understanding of how research and analysis is conducted and applied in an electric utility. In addition, the intern will be a part of a small team that will:
Transform business problems into research questions
Cleanse dirty data
Work with big data (interval meter reads) and combine data from multiple sources
Apply statistical techniques and impart their knowledge to the team
Improve their communication skills by presenting information to non-experts in a way that is actionable
Improve their T-SQL skills
Build a network of professionals and improve soft skills (Listening, negotiation, business acumen).
The SRP Market Research department is charged with providing analytic and modeling support on various projects and the intern's responsibilities would include:
Developing propensity models to augment the SQL Server data warehouse. These models will support new product development, acquiring new customers or retaining existing customers.
Data mining to uncover insights into customer satisfaction and/or customer participation in specific programs.
Knowledge of a statistical language (R, SAS or SPSS) is required.
Strong knowledge of statistical methods such as regression models and cluster analysis is required.
T-SQL programming knowledge is desirable.
Data visualization or PowerPoint presentation skills are desirable for conveying results to a business audience.
Salt River Project, the nation's third-largest public power and water utility is looking for a talented student currently pursuing a Master's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Analytics or comparable discipline.
Applicant must be enrolled and attending a minimum of six (6) college credits per semester.
This is a paid internship ($18.46 per hour) for a graduate student working 15-20 hours per week..
