Cornell University Administrative Assistant III, Office of Undergraduate Biology in Ithaca, New York

   

Cornells program in the Biological Sciences is primarily composed of faculty members from the Colleges of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), Arts and Sciences (CAS), and Veterinary Medicine.  The size of the program and the diversity of the facultys teaching and research interests are reflected in more than 200 biology course offerings and in the design and flexibility of the undergraduate curriculum for the benefit of over 1300 majors.

The Administrative Assistant is responsible for providing administrative support to the core biology program, serving a diverse population of students and teaching assistants (TAs). Under limited supervision, provide broad administrative, organizational, and clerical support to course instructors including duties such as copying, faxing, and scanning. Provide instructional support as requested, including scheduling, preparation of course materials, grade tracking, set-up and maintenance of Blackboard sites. Develop course policies and procedures. Independently respond to inquiries and correspondence. Manage course-related websites (Staff Scheduling and Lab Enrollment) as well as computers in the facility. Conduct course registration. Maintain detailed accounting of budget and make recommendations. Coordinate undergraduate teaching assistant and tutor recruitment and appointments.

This is a variable effort appointment, maintaining full time hours during the academic year and decreasing to part time hours during the summer.

Required Qualifications

Formal training beyond a high school diploma. More than two years and less than four years experience. Excellent writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills; accuracy in spelling, grammar, proofreading, and attention to detail. Ability to work independently with very little supervision and to work effectively with a diverse population. Proficient in Outlook, Microsoft Office, and Filemaker Pro.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors degree; Minimum of 2-3 years experience in an academic setting; knowledge of university programs such as Kronos, Blackboard, Procurement (eShop, I Want Doc, PCARD Receipts), Outlook Calendar, Faculty Center, CCI, Acalog, University Scheduling, Chatter, Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop.
