This is a Career/Career-Conditional Full-Time appointment.

Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will be paid if the selectee lives outside of the local commuting area and is otherwise eligible for reimbursement of relocation expenses in accordance with the Federal Travel Regulation.
This position serves as the primary administrative support for the Superintendent's Office at Grand Canyon National Park. The incumbent manages payroll, provides payroll procedures and directions, and resolves payroll problems. Makes purchases with the government charge card and prepares purchase requisitions for other procurements. Assists office staff in preparing personnel documents, including SF- 52's, training requests, and performance standards/evaluations. Responsible for the preparation of travel authorizations and vouchers for office personnel and reviews all travel documents for accuracy and compliance with travel regulations. Prepares draft and final correspondence. Reviews outgoing correspondence from the park to be signed by the Superintendent's Office and makes any necessary corrections. Maintains records and files of all correspondence from the Superintendent's Offices and tracks all Congressional correspondence. Receives calls, greets visitors and refers inquires to appropriate staff members. Receives and reviews mail for the Superintendent's office and routes to appropriate staff member. The position will also assist other offices as needed.
Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

To qualify at the GS-06 level based on your experience you must show you have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that provides the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of such experience for this grade level include: handling payroll, travel arrangements and general correspondence for a business or office; and preparation of a variety of forms and reports. To be creditable, your experience must have involved the performance of various office duties, including typing correspondence, memos, reports, and forms from rough drafts and taking notes.
To qualify at the GS-07 level based on your experience you must show you have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that provides the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of such experience for this grade level include: assisting others in preparation of documents and travel orders, independently preparing drafts and and final correspondence, monitoring procurement requests to ensure completed, and managing payroll and timekeeping accounting. Selective Factor: Skill in a typing speed of a minimum of 40 words per minute (words per minute are based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors). Note: Applicants must document in their resume how they meet this requirement to be considered for this position. If you do not meet the requirements of this selective factor, you will be rated ineligible for this position.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies".
There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement.
- Any individual who is currently holding, or has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet time-in-grade requirements (must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent in the Federal service).
- You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license.
- If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
- You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 2 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
- You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.

Area/Housing Information:This position is stationed at the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park located in Northwest Arizona, approximately 60 miles north of Williams and 85 miles Northwest of Flagstaff at an elevation of 7,000 feet. Temperatures range from approximately 85 degrees in the summer to 17 degrees in the winter. Grand Canyon Village has schools K-12, a daycare center, post office, general store, banking facilities, churches, a recreation center, a clinic with resident physicians and several restaurants. The park community consists of some 2,500 people, including employees of the NPS and concessionaires and their family members. There are often employment opportunities for family members in the park and surrounding areas. The park community is small enough that many employees choose to walk or bike from their homes to work. Complete shopping, educational, medical and professional services are available in Williams and Flagstaff. Recreational opportunities include hiking, river rafting, fishing, cross-country and downhill skiing, and golfing in nearby communities. Permanent employees obtain housing either through a bid system, assigned housing, or by assignment into shared furnished quarters. Because of limited housing, when an employees is assigned shared quarters, the park is not able to provide accommodations for family member and pets.
