Sage Therapeutics Senior Director, Marketing - SRSE in Cambridge, Massachusetts


General Scope and Summary

SAGE Therapeutics is searching for a creative, resourceful, integrative thinker for an important role that is responsible for driving the development and implementation of the US commercial and marketing strategy for the CNS business. This critical leadership role will be responsible for setting and overseeing the execution of the product launch and marketing strategy for SAGE-547 in the US Marketplace. Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing, this role will be the commercial launch lead for Super-Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE), and is a high-profile position with the opportunity to make a large impact.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Translate clinical science and market place opportunity into a commercial vision and strategic direction for SAGE-547 for SRSE

  • Lead and align cross-functional teams through successful execution of launch

  • Create and implement the US marketing strategy (e.g. positioning, messaging, branding, medical education programs, market research) for the commercial organization

  • Partner with commercial insights to conduct highly innovative research/analytics to inform strategic segmentation of Hospital and Health Systems and HCPs; identify key business drivers and barriers, go to market plans, and organizational capability and resource needs

  • Lead development of the US strategic planning (3 yr./1 yr.), Marketing Tactical Plan, BME budget

  • Lead development of the core promotional campaign for the launch of SAGE-547 for SRSE

  • Work collaboratively with marketing team counterparts who are responsible for Social /Digital Multi-channel, Professional PR, and Patient Experience functions to assure that the overall marketing mix is fully align with Brand Strategy and integrated into the overarching US Brand strategic plan

  • Attract, hire, coach, and develop key talent to build a high-performing marketing organization

  • Develop and maintain business relationships with key national thought leaders

  • Provides strategic and tactical inputs into product lifecycle development plans

  • Determine US brand pricing strategy in collaboration with VP of Marketing

  • Review and assess US performance, sales and commercial supply forecasts and annual plans; manage the brand P&L

Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to develop important relationships with key stakeholders, good conflict management and negotiation skills, ability to analyze complex issues to develop relevant and realistic plans, programs and recommendations. Demonstrated ability to translate strategy into action; excellent analytical skills and an ability to communicate complex issues in a simple way and to orchestrate plans to resolve issues and mitigate risks.

  • 10+ years related experience in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry

  • BA/BS degree required. Advanced Degree in Business, Marketing or Life Sciences preferred

  • The candidate must have expertise in the commercialization of infused therapies and/or in rare disease markets to have an immediate impact on the launch preparation efforts of the company

  • Significant experience commercializing products administered in the Hospital, ICU / Critical Care settings is needed

  • Strong acumen in Hospital and Health System business models is essential including pricing and contracting strategy, P&T process, hospital reimbursement methods and payment models

  • Significant product launch experience in marketing is essential, including proven success as the brand lead of cross-functional launch excellence teams

  • Strong ability to translate commercial vision into a direction that provides clear focus and prioritization to marketing, commercial operations, sales, market access, and other cross-functional teams in preparation for launch is crucial

  • Consistent history of high performance in different functional roles in marketing with clear progression to positions of increasing leadership responsibility and visibility

  • A team player who has the ability and confidence to communicate effectively to all levels in the organization

  • Attention to detail in planning, organization, and project management and the ability to keep internal teams and external partners on track to deliver plans on time
